Arrival
We arrived in Pompeii via the Circumvesuviana Train. This train runs along the Gulf of Naples and trains come pretty much every half hour. We took a FlixBus from Naples to Pompeii, then visited this city for a few hours, then we grabbed the train to the town of Sorrento. This train gets absolutely PACKED, and there is often no sitting room. If it was that busy in May I can only imagine what it would be like in prime tourist season. We sat on our back packs eventually because we were hot and exhausted lol. There is also no AC so it gets pretty deadly. Apparently the pick pockets can be pretty bad on the train as well so be careful and keep a close eye on your luggage. The train took a little over an hour from Pompeii to Sorrento. If you want to avoid this experience (Which I would recommend lol) there is an express train you can take which is a bit more expensive and they come less frequently. It is also possible to get a Flix Bus but they can be pretty scarce so you will have to adjust your trip accordingly.
Accommodation
If you're planning on visiting the Amalfi Coast, I highly recommend staying in Sorrento. It is a gorgeous town and is much more affordable than some of the touristy locations such as Positano and Amalfi. We stayed at Hostel Santa Fortunata which was amazing and I can’t recommend a spot more than this one. For only $36 a night each, we had a 3-bed cabin with a private bathroom in this gorgeous campsite. There were even some cheaper options to stay in one of their tents or domes. The property has a gorgeous pool, beach, and restaurant with a patio overlooking the Sorrento cliffs and town. Santa Fortunata also has a shuttle bus that runs hourly and will take you to and from town for €1.50. The campsite is a little outside

Transportation
The bus system is amazing in Sorrento. If we happened to miss the hourly bus, an alternative was readily available at the nearby bus stop, with buses arriving approximately every 15 minutes. Bus tickets were cheap and you could purchase them at our campsite or right on the bus. Cabs are pretty hard to get in Sorrento so I would definitely rely on the public transit or walking.
Pit Stop in Pompeii
Between Naples and Sorrento, we made a pit stop in the gorgeous city of Pompeii. This is an ancient Roman city frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, offering a captivating glimpse into daily life and culture from nearly 2,000 years ago. Pompeii deserves it’s own blog, so check out my write up here.
